Hybrid Rat Snake Surprise!
This hybrid rat snake (Texas Rat Snake X Black Rat Snake) was bred to a normal Texas Rat Snake. After assuming she wasn't gravid she pops out 17 beautiful eggs! Forgive my mistake, I say the hatchlings will become food for coral and king snakes. I meant coral and king cobras. According to The Center for North American Herpetology, the Texas and Black Rat Snakes are Scotophis spiloides and S. obsoletus, respectively. Formerly they were Elaphe o. lindheimeri and Elaphe obsoleta.

Huge Adult Male Rat Snake!
Here is a more detailed and longer video of my newest arrival. I traded my Goliath Bird Eater in for him as part exchange to knock some money off which actually helped pay for the 4 ft vivarium. I just cannot get over the size of him, I had to buy him as I know that my Corn Snake Blake will never ever get this big. This beast is over 6 feet long and his girth is so thick that I cannot get my hand all the way around his body. He is a bit of a shy feeder tho at the moment and have to leave the mouse/rat in a dish in his vivarium and have to leave the room for him to eat. He is definatley male by his long thick tail and also his wanting to escape behaviour where he is constantly nose rubbing against the glass to try and escape and look for a female. My corn snake does exactly the same as all mature males will do this this time of year. it's their body clock. note: Here's a quick video of my old snake. a 6 1/2 foot Grey rat Snake, around 6 and a half years old. absoloutley enourmous. just a quick video tho will make a new video when i get the time. he is a male and around 6 and a half years old. note: i no longer own this snake, he was diagnosed with parasites and at the time i freaked out and sadly at the time i passed him onto a friend who wanted him, apparantley my friend managed to cure him with the behapar anti flaggelate treatment. i instantly regretted getting rid of him though, and it took me a year to find another specimen just like him, check out my newest videos of ...

Texas Rat Snake
My name is Orry Martin: The Texas Snake Hunter. This is the Texas Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimerii). One of the most common snakes across the southern United States and commonly referred to as the "Chicken Snake." These snakes are excellent climbers and typically have nasty attitudes; however, they are nonvenomous. The hatchlings are colored completely different from adults and grow darker as they age.

several kilometers in, climbing the second ridge, we broke off the trail to explore some of the steeper terrain. just a few hundred meters in, sz almost stepped on this, placing his foot only a few inches away. at the time, we were unaware as to what type of snake this was, or what it was capable of. we sidestepped it and moved on. as it turns out, it is a relatively harmless snake, non-venomous and generally not confrontational. this specimen was remarkably confident, giving up no ground nor making any attempts to flee. while we referred to it as "he", we had no idea as to the actual gender. en.wikipedia.org

Black Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta)
Black Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta) * Common Name: Black Rat Snake (neonate) * Scientific Name: Elaphe obsoleta * Class: Reptiles. * Diet: Small mammals, reptiles, amphibians. * Size: Adult rat snakes are typically 3-5 ft (91-152 cm), but large individuals may be more than 6 ft (183 cm) long * Habitat: **Rat snakes are medium to large constrictors that can be found through a great portion of the northern hemisphere. They feed primarily on rodents and birds and, with some species exceeding 10 feet, they can occupy top levels of some food chains. Many species make attractive and docile pets and one, the corn snake, is one of the most popular reptile pets in the world. Other species can be very skittish and sometimes aggressive but bites are seldom serious and no species of ratsnake is dangerous to humans. They were long thought to be completely nonvenomous, but recent studies have shown that at least some Old World species do possess small amounts of venom (amounts so small as to be negligible to humans). 蛇White Snake - Leucistic North American Rat Snake - Cobra Branca Elaphe obsoleta lindheimerii
"Heavy Water", por Button Down Brass. The Texas Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimeri) is a species of rat snake, a non-venomous colubrid found in the United States, primarily within the state of Texas, but its range also extends into Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. It intergrades with other subspecies of Elaphe obsoleta, so exact range boundaries are impossible to distinguish. The epithet lindheimeri is to honor the German-American naturalist Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer, who collected the first specimen in New Braunfels, Texas. In general, all ratsnakes are medium to large colubrids. They are all strong constrictors which feed on rodents, birds, and eggs; the young often eat lizards or treefrogs (Hyla sp.). Ratsnakes appreciate a fairly large cage, but a ten gallon aquarium will house even most ...

SNAKES: Following A Yellow Rat Snake
Today, June 4, 2010, while checking my garden this snake caught the corner of my eye. It is a beautiful snake with stripes on it's back. This is the third snake Ive found since Mid May, 2010 and all three have been different snakes. The first snake I found was dying because I think my dog attacked it either to play with the snake or to protect us. The second snake was a baby snake I found dead with a piece of pine straw in it's mouth. That very same day I put some ant killer granules on a huge ant hill which was located near a pile of leaves mixed with branches and straw so I am not sure if the baby snake was in the pile near the ant bed and ingested the ant killer granules. There was a small slice on the baby snake's skin otherwise no visible injuries. I'll post a video on the baby snake. Lastly, the third snake did coil and lift his head as though to strike at me but never did. The snake did have kind round eyes and I think the snake sensed I was not going to harm him/her. Towards the end of my video shoot, I think the snake was showing off for the camera :) It was my desire to film the snake a bit longer, however, yellow flies were biting me everywhere on my body so I had to go inside. If you look at the snake's body you will see yellow flies biting the snake. In all my years living in the south I have never seen the yellow flies this bad. .Thank you for watching my video Feel free to comment and any information about this snake is greatly appreciated :) Video footage ...

Leucistic Elaphe obsoleta lindheimeri: Texas Rat Snake
I just received this little girl today and boy is she living up to her species reputation! I love her. She's quite feisty but with time, I am sure she will calm down. This is a few hours after I got her and she warmed up. I held her for about 3 minutes and now she will get a 1-2 week acclimation period. She is very pretty and aggressive as you can see. The coiled neck is there ready stance to strike. Don't let this deter you in getting some if your interested.
