My name is Orry Martin: The Texas Snake Hunter. This is the Texas Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimerii). One of the most common snakes across the southern United States and commonly referred to as the "Chicken Snake." These snakes are excellent climbers and typically have nasty attitudes; however, they are nonvenomous. The hatchlings are colored completely different from adults and grow darker as they age.
